Sirius Integrator has been marketing and manufacturing off-grid power solutions for over six years now with hundreds of deployments across North America. Off-grid Power can be 'backup power to the grid', 'backup to off-grid solar', or continuous primary power. Typically the industrial applications we power are under 500w of continuous wattage and use either 12v, 24v, or 48v battery banks. Many applications are found off-grid in remote locations where grid access is not available and solar power is unreliable across selected months of the year. Some deployments are mobile, others portable, but most are located at stationary sites. They could be in hot, windy, very cold or just normal outdoor environments and in all cases we need to ensure that enclosures are properly setup for successful fuel cell deployments. We've deployed standalone fuel cell solutions as well as solar & wind hybrid configurations in the US and Canada. In most cases a hybrid of a solar panel and fuel cell makes sense, if the application is not covert in nature. On occasion a tri-power configuration has been used that couples typically a small 100w thin solar panel with a 50w micro wind turbine and a < 100w methanol fuel cell.
Customers demand reliability, long runtimes (autonomy) between site visits, no maintenance, quiet operation, low emissions, and an acceptable fuel cell lifetime. Each application can have unique requirements and different fuel cell technologies are used across our product line for the customer's specific scenario. In most cases today's fuel cell buyers of sub 500w power are looking to; a. reduce site visits and total cost of operation, b. increase security by increasing power reliability, and c. decrease lost data both narrow and broadband in nature. Mission-critical & data-critical applications include Homeland Security & Law Enforcement surveillance, Seismic Sensors, Sodar/Lidar Wind Profiling, Oil & Gas Cathodic Protection, running Pumps & Compressors, Railway Signaling, PTC & Lubrication, Water & Gas Measurements & Sensors, Rock Fall Mitigation, Traffic Management & Signage, Emergency Backup, communications, and hundreds more. Some applications need 24x7x365 continuous wattage power while others need only power for loads operating selected hours across the day. In all cases our solutions are charging battery banks and not directly delivering power to the application devices. We charge both lead acid and LiFE PO4 batteries in configurations that range from 20ah to 2000ah in size. Most deployments include a mix of system components and not just one device to power, so we help customers size their configuration requirements prior to making a decision on selecting the right fuel cell system.
