The Problem:

Both public and private road crews expend efforts making sure that traffic flows safely around construction sites. This means either laying power cables at great expense or regularly replacing dead batteries with fully charged ones. Without fuel cells a trailer carrying warning signage has to return to the shop for recharging every eight hours. In the meantime, another trailer must be towed out to the roadwork site.

This means high labor costs, daily travel, and frequent exposure to traffic hazards.

Fuel Cells Provide No-maintenance Power

The remote power logistics for operating sensors can be monumental. Pressure is mounting world-wide to reduce costs and boost power source efficiency. The EFOY Pro presents an attractive, low-maintenance alternative for reliably powering remote telecommunications and metering equipment such as:

EFOY fuel cells are at work today providing clean, reliable energy to numerous environmental sensors and telecommunications facilities located in remote areas. Using EFOY fuel cells has lessened need to travel long distances to replace batteries or refuel generators, which in turn has reduced costs and environmental harm.

A Practical Example:

Before: No EFOY Pro fuel cell
For example, a 10-watt level sensor requires 240 watt hours per day for continuous operation. A 60 Ah lead-acid battery can supply enough power for three days. To replace the battery from a base camp 60 miles away will cost $ 60 in gas & car expense (120 miles @ $.50). Add to that three hours of loaded wages @ $100, equaling $300 additional cost. The total cost per trip is thus approximately $ 360 per day trip, not including the time it takes to recharge the replaced batteries at your home base, battery replacement and disposal costs, and the environmental costs associated with lead acid battery pollution. In this example, that would mean your costs would exceed $ 1000 every week just to manage your old battery replacement logistics.

Many cases, however, involve a lot more travel. Some metering devices located in nature preserves or along oil and gas pipelines are only reachable by helicopter. The cost here: $ 7000 per hour!

The bottom line is that batteries represent: difficult logistics, frequent labor associated with travel, short autonomy, a great deal of battery recharging & replacement work, and a pollution source.
